SecurityNet – Installation Guide for macOS
SecurityNet is a Windows-based application. To run on macOS, it uses a Windows compatibility layer (Wine).
Because SecurityNet is distributed outside the Apple App Store, macOS will display a security warning the first time you open it.
This alert is normal and expected for all non-App Store software, and it does not indicate a problem with SecurityNet.
Simply follow the steps below to open the app safely.
- 1Download the SecurityNet.dmg file
Save it to your Downloads folder. - 2Open the DMG
If you see a window appear with the SecurityNet icon, continue. - 3Drag SecurityNet into Applications
This installs the app on your Mac. - 4Launch SecurityNet
Open Finder → Applications → double-click SecurityNet.
- 1When launching SecurityNet for the first time, macOS will show a security message:
“SecurityNet cannot be opened because the developer cannot be verified.”
This happens because the app is not yet verified by Apple as an identified developer. - 2Click Cancel.
- 3Now allow SecurityNet manually:
Open System Settings
Go to Privacy & Security
Scroll down to find "SecurityNet was blocked from opening"
Click Allow Anyway
- 4Open SecurityNet again
This time macOS will show:“macOS cannot verify the developer. Are you sure you want to open it?” - 5Click Open
SecurityNet will now launch normally. - 6You only need to do this once.
macOS will trust SecurityNet from now on.
You do not need to use Terminal unless you prefer the quick method. Most users should use the standard steps above.
If you prefer using Terminal to remove the quarantine flag, please follow this process:
- 1Quit the blocked app (it usually doesn’t fully launch).
- 2Open Terminal.
- 3Run the following command:
xattr -d com.apple.quarantine "/Applications/SecurityNet.app" - 4Launch SecurityNet again normally.
This removes the internet quarantine flag manually.
If you already use Parallels Desktop on your Mac, you can run the standard Windows version of SecurityNet inside your Windows virtual machine.
This method avoids macOS security restrictions, because SecurityNet runs entirely inside Windows.
Steps
Download the Windows version of SecurityNet (EXE installer).
Open your Windows virtual machine in Parallels.
Copy the EXE file into Windows.
Install SecurityNet normally — exactly the same as on a regular PC.
Benefits
No macOS security prompts
No notarization or Gatekeeper issues
Works exactly like the Windows version
Recommended for tech-savvy users already running a VM
